Central Railway, in a statement on Friday, announced that it will operate a 15-hour special traffic and power block between Umbermali and Atgaon stations on April 25-26 for non-interlocking work linked to Khardi yard remodelling and the third line project between Kalyan and Kasara.
The block will be in effect from 12 noon on April 25 to 3 am on April 26 on both up and down North-East lines, significantly impacting suburban and long-distance train services.
Suburban train services between Asangaon and Kasara will remain suspended during the block period.
Several Kasara-bound locals from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) will be short-terminated at Asangaon, Titwala and Vasind, while services originating from Kasara will begin from these stations instead.
One Kasara-CSMT local scheduled at 2:42 pm on April 25 has been cancelled.
Railways said the last local for Kasara from CSMT before the block will depart at 8:33 am, while normal services will resume early morning on April 26.
The CSMT-Dhule Express scheduled on April 25 has been cancelled. Several long-distance trains will be short-terminated at Manmad, diverted via alternate routes, or rescheduled.
Key diversions include trains towards Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) via Nandurbar-Vasai Road and Pune-Lonavala routes, while others will skip Kalyan halt and operate via Bhiwandi Road.
Multiple trains, including services to Amritsar, Howrah, Banaras and Patna, have been rescheduled to depart in the early hours of April 26 instead of late-night April 25 timings.
Railways said trains passing through the section during the block may be delayed by 25 to 30 minutes due to operational constraints and congestion.
Passengers have been advised to check revised timings and plan their journeys accordingly.
Officials said the block is essential for yard remodelling at Khardi and for progressing work on the third line between Kalyan and Kasara, aimed at improving capacity and safety on the busy route.
Similarly, the Central Railway today announced that it will operate a mega block on its Harbour Line on Sunday to carry out essential engineering and maintenance work, disrupting suburban services on key sections.
Suburban services between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Bandra/Chunabhatti will remain suspended from late morning to evening.
Down Harbour services from CSMT towards Vashi, Belapur and Panvel, as well as towards Bandra and Goregaon, will be cancelled between approximately 11 am and 4:45 pm.
Similarly, up Harbour services towards CSMT from Panvel, Belapur, Vashi, Goregaon and Bandra will remain suspended during the block period.
To ease commuter inconvenience, special services will operate between Panvel and Kurla at a frequency of 20 minutes during the block.
Passengers have been permitted to travel via the Main Line and Western Railway between 10 am and 6 pm.
Railway officials clarified that no mega block will be operated on the Main Line between CSMT and Kalyan on the same day.
Authorities said the block is necessary for infrastructure upkeep and safety, urging commuters to plan journeys in advance and bear with the temporary inconvenience.
