Chembur OHE snag disrupts Harbour Line trains (Pic/Special arrangement)
Suburban train services on Mumbai's Harbour Line were disrupted during Friday morning's peak hour. The disruption occurred after an unidentified wire was found hanging over the overhead equipment (OHE) near Chembur station, causing delays and affecting train operations.
The fault was detected at kilometre marker 17/225 on the UP line near Chembur station at around 9:10 am. As a safety measure, train PL40 was detained after it crossed Chembur station to prevent any potential mishap.
However, the traffic on the affected stretch was restored at 9:52 am after the hanging wire was removed and the overhead equipment was declared safe for operations.
The hanging wire was noticed over the OHE, the high-voltage electric system that powers suburban trains. Soon after the incident was reported, the railway authorities immediately alerted maintenance teams, who were rushed to the site to inspect and rectify the fault.
The incident led to delays in Harbour Line services during the busy morning rush hour, inconveniencing thousands of commuters travelling towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). Railway officials, however, prioritised passenger safety and temporarily regulated train movements in the affected section.
Maintenance staff began restoration work soon after the fault was reported, with efforts underway to remove the obstruction and restore normal services at the earliest.
In a separate incident, a fire broke out at an electrical distribution transformer in Thane's Naupada area on Thursday night. The blaze prompted a swift response from the Fire Brigade and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) personnel.
According to the Thane Municipal Corporation's (TMC) Disaster Management Cell, the alert regarding the blaze was received at around 10:43 pm on June 11.
As per the officials, the fire occurred at a Mahavitaran electrical distribution transformer located near the Ashwamedh Building in Bhaskar Colony at Naupada (West).
Soon after the incident was reported, MSEDCL staff and Fire Brigade personnel, along with a fire tender, rushed to the spot and initiated firefighting operations. However, no injuries were reported.
As a precautionary measure, the power supply to the transformer was first disconnected by Mahavitaran officials to ensure the safety of the firefighting team and nearby residents.
