Central Railway has announced that all the 1,820 suburban services will operate on Sunday to facilitate candidates appearing for the NEET (UG) 2026 examination.
The railway administration has also decided not to impose any mega block on the day to ensure smooth and uninterrupted suburban train operations across all lines.
Central Railway said that instead of the usual Sunday schedule of around 1,200 services, all the 1,820 suburban trains will run as per the regular weekday timetable.
This step has been taken to ensure that a large number of NEET (UG) aspirants and their parents can travel to examination centres without delays or inconvenience.
Officials confirmed that no mega block will be carried out on Sunday, June 21, a departure from routine maintenance scheduling on Sundays, in view of the national-level entrance examination.
The decision is expected to significantly ease passenger movement across the Mumbai suburban network, particularly during peak exam travel hours.
The announcement was issued by Dr Swapnil Nila, chief public relations officer of Central Railway, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai.
The Western Railway, while sharing Mumbai local train updates on Thursday, said it has cancelled the jumbo block scheduled to operate on its suburban section on Sunday for the NEET exam.
The decision has been taken to ensure smooth and convenient travel for thousands of candidates appearing for the examination across Mumbai and neighbouring areas.
According to a press release issued by Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek, all suburban train services on Sunday, 21 June, will operate according to the regular weekday schedule instead of the usual Sunday timetable.
The move is expected to provide increased train frequency and better connectivity for students travelling to their examination centres.
While regular suburban services will follow the weekday timetable, AC suburban train services will continue to operate as per the normal Sunday schedule.
Passengers have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and check train timings before travelling.
The suspension of the weekly maintenance block is expected to benefit not only NEET candidates but also their parents and guardians travelling with them.
By maintaining a higher frequency of services, Western Railway aims to minimise travel disruptions and ensure candidates reach their examination centres on time.
