Mumbai: Man dies after jumping into Mithi river for swimming

A 24-year-old resident of Gyaneshwar Nagar identified as Mohammad Sharukh Shakil Shaikh lost his life after jumping into Mithi River on Wednesday. According to the police the incident occurred at around 4 pm when two more people jumped into the river.

An officer said, "Soon Shaikh jumped, two more people dived in to save him but they failed. The men then contacted the police and in the meanwhile, even fire brigade officials rushed to the spot."

Despite continuous rains, the fire department officials managed to rescue him and he was then shifted to Sion hospital in a serious condition. He was later declared dead.

According to the locals, he purposely jumped into the water for swimming. The locals also added that they had warned him to not do it but he turned a deaf ear to their advice.
