The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has planned a pedestrian walkway under the Princess Street Flyover at Marine Drive to reclaim the space from construction and parked vehicles. The 150-metre-long walkway will span the length of the flyover, which turns 90 degrees onto Marine Drive from Shyamaldas Gandhi Road ahead of Parsi Dairy. Pedestrians will have to cross Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Road (Marine Drive) to walk the entire length of the walkway under the flyover, and a zebra crossing will be painted on the carriageway to enable pedestrian access.

Other plans

Apart from creating a walkway, the civic body has planned to plant flowering shrubs for beautification. The traffic island with the mermaid statue will also get a new installation named the ‘Upward Path', created by Indian origin, France-based artist Sakti Burman. External walls and pillars of the flyover will be painted with images of the map of South Mumbai and its popular tourist destinations, including heritage structures such as the Gateway of India, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), and the BMC headquarters.
