Mumbai Metro One has launched a fully digital metro pass on WhatsApp, allowing commuters travelling on the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor to purchase, store and use passes directly through the messaging platform.

According to a release, the initiative, promoted by Reliance Infrastructure, allows commuters to buy multi-trip passes and stored-value travel digitally, eliminating the need for a physical metro pass.

The digital passes can also be added to Google Wallet and Apple Wallet.

Two digital pass options available

Commuters can choose between two types of passes:

Trip Pass: Allows users to purchase a predefined number of journeys in advance. The trips remain valid until they are used, eliminating the need to buy individual tickets for every journey.

Store Value Pass: Allows commuters to load an amount of their choice, with the applicable fare automatically deducted from the balance for each journey. The balance can be recharged digitally when required.

As per the release, both passes can be accessed through Google Wallet or Apple Wallet for easier use during daily travel.

How to purchase the digital pass

The pass can be purchased through Mumbai Metro One's existing WhatsApp ticketing service in three steps:

Send "Hi" on WhatsApp to Mumbai Metro One at 91 9670008889.

Tap on "Book Now" to open the ticketing window.

Select the "Digital Pass" option, choose Trip Pass or Store Value Pass, make the payment through UPI, debit card or credit card, and receive the pass instantly.

The entire process can be completed on WhatsApp without downloading a separate application, creating a new account or visiting a ticket counter.

Digital expansion of Mumbai Metro One services

The Digital Pass initiative builds on Mumbai Metro One's WhatsApp eTicketing service, which was introduced in November 2022. The service allows commuters to purchase single-journey QR tickets through WhatsApp.

Mumbai Metro One, which operates the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor, completed 12 years of operations in June 2026 and has carried more than 125 crore commuters since launching services.

The operator has also introduced mobile QR ticketing and integrated ticketing through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) network as part of its technology-led approach to urban mobility.

Company officials highlight convenience

Mumbai Metro One CEO Shyamantak Choudhury said the Digital Pass is a natural progression of the company's WhatsApp ticketing service and will offer commuters greater flexibility while reducing the need for repeated ticket purchases.

Billeasy CEO Akash Patil said the initiative aims to simplify daily travel by allowing commuters to manage their metro journeys through digital passes.

PayU India CEO Anirban Mukherjee said the company was supporting the initiative by enabling secure and seamless digital payments for Mumbai Metro One commuters.

The company said the Digital Pass will reduce dependence on physical tickets and cards, minimise queues at ticket counters and provide commuters with greater flexibility in managing their daily journeys.
