Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has introduced 46 additional train services on the Aqua Line (Metro Line-3), taking the total number of daily weekday trips from 291 to 337, with effect from Monday.
The increase in services comes amid growing ridership on the corridor and is aimed at reducing overcrowding and commuter waiting times. With the revised schedule, the peak-hour frequency has improved, with the gap between trains reduced from 4 minutes and 50 seconds to 4 minutes and 25 seconds.
Following the commencement of full-section operations between Aarey JVLR and Cuffe Parade, the number of daily train trips was increased to 271. This was subsequently raised to 282 on June 23, 2026, and 291 on September 28, 2026.
With the latest enhancement, the Aqua Line now operates 337 trips on weekdays. MMRC said the revised timetable would offer passengers higher service frequency, reduced waiting times and greater convenience.
Weekend services will continue to operate according to a separate timetable.
The corporation said it would continue to monitor ridership trends and operational requirements and introduce further service enhancements as needed to ensure a reliable and efficient travel experience.
Mumbai Metro's Aqua Line recorded more than 7.2 crore passenger journeys in its first year of full-route operations, underlining the growing use of the underground corridor. The 33.5-km Metro Line-3 connects Aarey JVLR in the western suburbs to Cuffe Parade in south Mumbai, passing through several important commercial, residential and transport hubs.
According to data shared by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), the corridor recorded 7,20,88,738 passenger journeys during its first year of full operations. The ridership figures also reflected a considerable difference between weekday and weekend travel. In September 2026, the line recorded an average daily ridership of 2,24,602 on weekdays, compared with 1,31,138 on weekends.
The weekday ridership figures highlight the importance of the corridor for daily commuters travelling across the city, particularly those using the line to reach business districts and other key destinations.
The latest enhancement in services comes against this backdrop of growing passenger usage.
The additional services are expected to improve frequency and ease waiting times for passengers using the Aqua Line.
