Heavy monsoon showers continued to lash Mumbai on Sunday, with the city and its suburbs recording widespread rainfall between 8 am and 11 pm, according to civic and meteorological data.
For the 15-hour period, Mumbai recorded an average rainfall of 63 mm, while the eastern suburbs recorded 87 mm, and the western suburbs 88 mm, indicating stronger showers in the suburban belt.
Several pockets across the city experienced intense rainfall during the day, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas and intermittent disruption of traffic movement. Earlier in the day, the eastern suburbs had recorded 50 mm and the western suburbs 48 mm during a 10-hour period, while the city average stood at 33 mm, indicating a significant rise in cumulative rainfall by evening.
As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) rainfall update for the period between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, Vikhroli recorded the highest rainfall at 75 mm.
Other eastern suburbs that witnessed heavy rainfall included Sion (56.5 mm), Ram Mandir (55.5 mm), Vidyavihar (46.5 mm), and Byculla (25 mm). In the western suburbs, Santacruz recorded 66.4 mm, followed by Bandra at 52.5 mm. In the Island City, Colaba recorded 48.8 mm of rainfall.

In Thane, the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation reported 67.01 mm rainfall during the 10-hour period from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm.

Thane's total rainfall for the day stood at 67.01 mm. The seasonal rainfall so far stands at 1015.72 mm, compared to 989 mm recorded during the corresponding period in 2025.
Civic authorities in Mumbai and Thane remained on alert amid the active monsoon phase, with intermittent rainfall affecting low-lying areas and traffic movement in parts of the city.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai and the Konkan region, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy spells at isolated places on Sunday as the active monsoon phase intensifies across Maharashtra.
In its weather bulletin issued at 1.12 pm on Sunday, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Mumbai, said widespread rainfall activity is expected across the state over the next few days, with the highest intensity likely over the Konkan region and adjoining ghat areas.
On Monday, the rainfall intensity is expected to ease, with the IMD issuing an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar. However, Raigad will continue to remain under a red alert. The rainfall activity is likely to weaken further in Mumbai and Thane on Tuesday.
