Mumbai rains: Mulund, Bhandup record over 150 mm rainfall by 9 pm; check area-wise figures

Heavy monsoon showers continued to batter Mumbai and neighbouring Thane on Wednesday, with several locations in the eastern suburbs receiving more than 150 mm of rainfall by 9 pm. Mulund recorded the highest rainfall at 166 mm, while Thane logged 117.55 mm during the 13-hour period ending at 9.30 pm

Heavy monsoon showers continued to lash Mumbai and neighbouring Thane on Wednesday, with several locations in the eastern suburbs recording more than 150 mm of rainfall by 9 pm, according to data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) also reported persistent rainfall across the city throughout the day.

As per the BMC's rainfall update, the highest rainfall between 8 am and 9 pm was recorded at Mithagar Municipal School in Mulund, which received 166 mm of rain.

Other areas in the eastern suburbs that witnessed intense rainfall included Gawanpada Fire Station (161.8 mm), S Ward Office, Bhandup (155.6 mm), Paspoli Powai Municipal School, Powai (152.8 mm), and Tagore Nagar Municipal School, Vikhroli (152.6 mm).

The western suburbs also experienced heavy rainfall during the 13-hour period. Nariyalwadi School in Santacruz topped the list with 141.6 mm of rain, followed by SWM Santacruz Workshop (139.4 mm), Malpa Dongari Municipal School, Andheri (135.6 mm), Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Hospital (134.6 mm), and Andheri Fire Station (132.4 mm).

In the island city, rainfall was comparatively lower. The G South Ward Office recorded the highest rainfall at 84.2 mm, followed by F North Ward Office (82.4 mm), B Nadkarni Park Municipal School, Wadala (78.4 mm), F South Ward Office (78.2 mm), and SWD Workshop, Dadar (74.6 mm).

Thane records 117.55 mm rainfall in 13 hours as steady showers continue

Neighbouring Thane also continued to receive steady rainfall.

According to the RDMC of the Thane Municipal Corporation, the city recorded 117.55 mm of rainfall during the 13-hour period between 8.30 am and 9.30 pm on Wednesday.

The highest hourly rainfall was recorded between 9.30 am and 10.30 am (16.77 mm), closely followed by 16.76 mm between 10.30 am and 11.30 am. Other notable hourly rainfall included 14.47 mm between 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm, 11.69 mm between 4.30 pm and 5.30 pm, 11.42 mm between 11.30 am and 12.30 pm, and 11.17 mm between 3.30 pm and 4.30 pm.

The city has received a cumulative rainfall of 528.89 mm so far this monsoon season, compared to 820.24 mm during the corresponding period last year.
