An anti-mosquito spraying operation underway at a construction site in Navi Mumbai
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its anti-mosquito drive at 270 construction sites across the city to curb the spread of dengue and malaria during the monsoon.
The special campaign covers under-construction residential and redevelopment projects, where stagnant water often becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The sites fall under the jurisdiction of 26 Urban Primary Health Centres.

Of the 270 active construction sites, 152 employ up to 50 workers, 45 have 51 to 100 workers, 40 have more than 100 workers, while 33 are excavated plots awaiting construction. A total of 14,390 workers are employed at these sites.
The health department has prepared a weekly inspection plan for all sites. The drive includes anti-larval spraying, chemical fogging, larvicide treatment, and powder spraying in labour camps.
Guppy fish, which feed on mosquito larvae, have been released at 265 construction sites. Over the past three months, powder spraying has been carried out in the living quarters of 3560 workers. The civic body said the measures are regularly reviewed by supervisors and senior officials.
Mayor Sujata Patil and Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde urged residents to prevent water stagnation, remove scrap and discarded items from terraces and open spaces, and maintain cleanliness around their homes.
The NMMC said sustained preventive measures and public participation are key to keeping dengue and malaria under control during the monsoon.
