The Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) have called for a mega morcha rally from Byculla to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus on October 4, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
MNS chief Raj Thackeray and his cousin and Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray announced in a joint press conference at the former's residence, Shivtirth, that they would organise a protest march in Mumbai on October 4 against the CEC and Election Commission of India (ECI).
Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray and MP Sanjay Raut, and MNS leader Amit Thackeray also addressed a press conference.
Raut said, "Under the leadership of Uddhav and Raj Thackeray, we have decided to hold a march on October 4. We have decided to hold a protest in Mumbai against CEC Gyanesh Kumar."
Raj Thackeray said that the protest had not been planned to target any political party, but it is against the way the Election Commission has been functioning in recent years.
"I have been raising the issue of EVMs since 2017-18, and I will speak about it in detail on October 4. The further course of action will be decided after the morcha. We would like to invite all political parties to join us in the morcha. If those in power also want to join, they are welcome to participate," said Raj Thackeray.
The cousins also appealed to their party workers not to carry party flags during the morcha, but to bear the tricolour. Uddhav Thackeray said, "We are extending our full support to the protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party. All those who fight to save democracy will have our support."
