More than 12,000 people participated in a foot march organised by the BJP's North Mumbai district unit on Saturday, October 31, as part of its 'Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao' (Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy) campaign, according to the party.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister and Mumbai North MP Piyush Goyal led the march, which saw the participation of BJP and Shiv Sena leaders from the Eknath Shinde faction.
BJP leader Pravin Darekar, BJP MLA Sanjay Upadhyay and Shiv Sena MLA Prakash Surve were among those present.
A large number of men, women and young people took part in the march. BJP workers and supporters were also seen raising slogans against those whom the party accused of defaming the government and its institutions.
The march began at the Swami Vivekananda statue in Borivali West and concluded at Saptah Maidan, opposite Kamala Vihar Sports Club in Mahavir Nagar, Kandivali West.
A BJP leader told mid-day that more than 12,000 people had participated in the march.
Mumbai BJP Secretary Advocate Akhilesh Chaubey said the march had received an overwhelming response, with workers from the BJP and its alliance partners joining people from different sections of society.
"The foot march received an overwhelming response, with a large number of people participating, including workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its alliance partners. People from different sections of society, including men, women and youngsters, came forward to take part in the march. More than 12,000 people participated in the foot march," Chaubey said.
He added that the participation of young people, including those from Gen Z and Gen Alpha, was particularly encouraging and reflected their support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.
Chaubey also alleged that those opposing the government and constitutional institutions such as the Supreme Court were receiving foreign funding to carry out activities against the country's interests. He did not provide details or evidence to substantiate the allegation.
BJP national president Nitin Nabin will lead a 'Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao' march in Rohtak, Haryana, on Sunday, as part of the party's nationwide campaign against the opposition.
The march is aimed at countering what the BJP has described as the opposition's "misinformation, propaganda and orchestrated chaos".
The padyatra will take place on the same day that the opposition INDIA bloc is scheduled to hold a rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged vote theft.
