Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will temporarily shut both its runways for six hours on November 19 as part of its annual post-monsoon maintenance programme.
Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), which operates the airport, said runways 09/27 and 14/32 will remain non-operational from 11 am to 5 pm IST.
The scheduled closure is part of CSMIA's annual maintenance plan to ensure runway safety, reliability and compliance with global aviation standards.
The work will include detailed inspections, surface repairs and technical assessments of runway lighting, markings and drainage systems. The airport operator said the maintenance is an integral part of its year-round operational readiness programme.
MIAL said a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued in advance, allowing airlines and other stakeholders to adjust flight schedules and manpower planning.
Coordination with airlines and relevant stakeholders began six months ahead of the scheduled maintenance, according to the airport operator. The advance planning is intended to synchronise operational requirements and minimise inconvenience to passengers.
CSMIA said the maintenance reflects its focus on maintaining safe, secure and efficient airside operations.
Mumbai International Airport Limited is a joint venture between Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI), with AAHL holding a 74 per cent stake. AAHL is a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Limited, the flagship company of the Adani Group.
MIAL is responsible for operating and modernising CSMIA, which is located in Mumbai.
CSMIA, which has a history spanning more than 90 years, is spread across 1,900 acres and has a cross-runway configuration. The airport operator describes it as the world's busiest single-runway airport, handling nearly 1,000 air traffic movements daily.
According to the supplied information, the airport handled 55.29 million passengers in the 2025-26 financial year. It also serves as an export-import and logistics hub, with its air cargo terminal handling more than 0.85 million metric tonnes of cargo annually.
CSMIA said it received Level 5 accreditation for Airport Customer Experience from Airports Council International in December 2024, becoming the first airport in India and the third globally to achieve the recognition.
