At a time when the number of cases of people suffering from a stroke is on the rise, Global Hospital in Parel has launched a Neuro Critical Care and Stroke Unit earlier this week. The new centre will provide advanced, multi-disciplinary care to critically ill patients with neurosurgical and neurological life-threatening illnesses. The hospital administration said that the centre will be equipped with modern ventilators and invasive as well as non-invasive facilities needed to monitor vital functions.
Dr. Shirish M Hastak, Regional Director, Neurology, Stroke and Neurocritical Care, Global Hospital said, "The team of physicians are specialists in neurology, stroke, intensive medicine, and interventional neuroradiology. The nurses are trained in techniques for examining the brain and central nervous system. Detection of subtle changes in the neurological states of patients is extremely important as this may be lifesaving in certain cases."
Through the dedicated centre, the hospital aims to improve the patients' outcomes in cases of stroke, brain hemorrhage, and tumors. The centre will be run by a team of intensivists, pulmonologists, infectious diseases specialists, nephrologists and cardiologists.
