Four days after a 22-year-old woman posted the picture of the man who sexually harassed her in a Mumbai local, the GRP has registered an FIR.

In a report by the Times of India, the FIR has been filed against unknown persons and includes charges of criminal intimidation since the man had also threatened the woman, saying he'd rape her. The woman had posted about her ordeal on social media, along with a picture of the accused. She alleged that when the incident occurred she called the railway helpline to complain, but said the operator laughed when he heard her complaint and hung up. Subsequently the Western Railway has filed a chargesheet against the head constable, Sayed Izhaar, who had received the call. The chargesheet, as per TOI, mentioned that he was being penalized for ‘not getting the train attended in time and not informing the inspector concerned.'

After TOI reported about the incident the GRP got in touch with the woman, who works in Bangalore, and asked her to send them details of the perpetrator. She sent them all the information need along with a picture of the accused. Since she could not come to Mumbai to file the complaint, the railway police decided to press charges against the accused independently.

In a conversation with TOI, a GRP official said, "An FIR has been registered at the Borivili outpost as the incident occurred between Borivili and Kandivili station on May 24. Teams have been formed from the railway police crime branch as well as the Borivili outpost to hunt down the flasher. CCTV camera footage is being checked at stations before and after Kandivili to find out where the flasher boarded the handicapped coach and where he got off."As of now the man's picture has been given to both the RPF and GRP.

The WR RPF had tweeted earlier this week and said that they had gone through the telephonic conversation on the helpline between the woman and Izhaar and said that no one laughed at the complaint. They also said that RPF officials also attended to the train at Andheri and Malad station but the lady (complainant) was not to be found.

The railway is now waiting for a reply from Izhaar before they can decide on a penalty. Izhaar was deployed at the Mumbai Central Control Room that used to receive calls from women commuters. The Railways has now decided to deploy women at the control room.
