Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray on Wednesday blamed road contractors for the problems faced by Mumbaikars during the first spell of the monsoon. He said poor-quality road work and the lack of action against contractors led to waterlogging, potholes, and traffic jams across the city, causing hardship to thousands of commuters.
Responding to the questions on waterlogging and other monsoon-related problems, Thackeray said, "The corrupt contracts are responsible for this situation." He added that those in power should be held accountable, pointing out that the BMC was under the state government's control before the 2026 civic polls and is now currently under the Mahayuti regime.
On June 30, a tree fell on a school bus in Chembur. The following morning, a few hours of rain led to waterlogging at the Andheri and Malad subways and several other roads across Mumbai, disrupting traffic and inconveniencing commuters.
Thackeray also took a veiled swipe at Mayor Ritu Tawde and BJP leaders. "Those busy finding Bangladeshis have failed to see Mumbai's real problems," he said. His remarks came as Tawde and the civic administration were carrying out a drive against illegal Bangladeshi hawkers after coming to power in the BMC.
