Mumbaikars woke up to a wet Friday morning with some rail and traffic disruptions after rains lashed several parts of the city, as severe Cyclone Maha looms over the Arabian Sea.

The heavy rains also slowed railway services and traffic with disruptions along the Thane-Vashi line due to a train failure near Rabale and signal problem between Matunga and Dadar stations. Services have been delayed beyond ten minutes due to the disruptions on both lines. The Trans Harbour line has suspended until further notice due to technical snag between Airoli and Rabale stations. BEST bus services were also affected due to water-logging with seven routes in western suburbs diverted till 9 am.

KS Hosalikar, deputy director general, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that short spells of rain was observed in different parts of the western suburbs, including Borivli, Santacruz and Chembur.

ANI reported that Kandivli and Malad, too witnessed heavy showers.

According to IMD, rains have been observed over the Konkan region in the city since late Thursday evening as a depression over the northeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea moved east-northeastwards, weakened into a low-pressure area over the northeast Arabian Sea and adjoining south Gujarat coast on Thursday. Hosalikar had also said while Cylone Maha was weakening, Cyclone Bulbul in the Bay of Bengal was intensifying.
