Mumbai rains: Check area-wise rainfall recorded across the city

Mumbai recorded extremely heavy rainfall over a 24-hour period ending Wednesday morning, with several parts of the city receiving more than 300 mm of rain. Data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) showed that multiple locations across the island city, eastern suburbs and western suburbs experienced intense downpours, leading to widespread waterlogging and disruptions in several areas.

Malvani and F/South Ward record highest rainfall in the city

Among all monitoring stations, Malvani (334 mm) and F/South Ward (328 mm) recorded the highest rainfall between 8 am on June 23 and 7 am on June 24. Other locations in the island city also reported exceptionally high rainfall figures.

Dadar Fire Station received 277 mm of rain, while Nair Hospital recorded 258 mm. Byculla Fire Station registered 253 mm, followed by Wadala Fire Station at 247 mm. Malabar Hill recorded 245 mm, while G/South Ward received 241 mm. Worli Fire Station reported 237 mm of rainfall and the SWD Workshop in Dadar recorded 210 mm during the same period.

Powai and Vihar Lake among worst-hit eastern suburbs

In the eastern suburbs, MCMCR Powai recorded the highest rainfall at 296 mm. Vihar Lake received 248 mm, highlighting the intensity of the rain across catchment areas.

M/West Ward Office recorded 242 mm, while BP Office in Vikhroli registered 233 mm. S Ward received 232 mm of rainfall and Collector Colony BMC School and Mankhurd Fire Station received 229 mm respectively, while Tagore Nagar BMC School and N Ward Office reported 215 mm, respectively, and Vikhroli Fire Station measured 202 mm of rainfall.

Western suburbs witness widespread heavy rainfall

The western suburbs also experienced significant rainfall, with Malvani Fire Station recording the highest total at 334 mm.

Malad Depot received 289 mm of rain, while Charkop BMC School recorded 281 mm. P/N Ward Office registered 265 mm and Kandivali Fire Station measured 265 mm. Borivali Fire Station recorded 250 mm. 250 mm, Bandra Fire Station reported 240 mm of rainfall, followed closely by HBT School in Jogeshwari at 234 mm. Aarey Colony BMC School received 232 mm, while R/Central Office recorded 228 mm.

Rainfall intensity highlights monsoon's impact

The rainfall data underscores the intensity of the ongoing monsoon spell over Mumbai. Several locations across all three regions of the city recorded rainfall well above 200 mm within a 24-hour period, indicating a severe weather event. Civic authorities continued to monitor conditions as heavy rains affected transportation, low-lying areas and daily life across the metropolis.

Heavy rain lashes Mumbai

Heavy rain lashed Mumbai through the night, leading to widespread waterlogging in several low-lying areas of the city, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai and adjoining districts.

The alert, issued early Wednesday morning, warned of moderate to intense spells of rain over Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar and Sindhudurg for a short-duration nowcast window, advising residents to take necessary precautions.

The broader day-long alert picture has Mumbai, its suburbs and Palghar on red alert, Thane on orange, and Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg on yellow.
