Maharashtra ATS and Delhi Police leads to arrest of two terror suspects in Mumbai

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad and Delhi police's Special Cell, in a joint operation, arrested two members allegedly linked to a terror group involved in online radicalisation of youths, an official said on Sunday.

As reported by news agency PTI, the two accused were held from Khadavali in Thane and Kurla in central Mumbai on specific intelligence inputs. Officials, while briefing about the joint operation, said that incriminating documents as well as electronic gadgets, including mobile phones, were recovered from them.

The officials highlighted, "The operation was conducted two days ago, and the accused persons have been taken to Delhi. The two are part of a module being operated from Odisha. The handlers are also on the radar of security agencies," as cited by PTI.

Officials further added that the Delhi police's Special Cell has registered a case of criminal conspiracy against the accused as well as the group and is probing further, as per PTI.

Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad raids four locations in Mumbai

Earlier last month, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) raided four locations in the suburbs of Mumbai over suspected links to a Pakistan-based terror outfit, an official said, reported the PTI.

The ATS, while acting on specific intelligence, raided three premises in the eastern suburbs of Govandi and one in Kurla.

The official, while further briefing about the operation, said that four suspects have been taken in for questioning.

He further added that the suspects were in contact with a Pakistani-based terror organisation banned in India under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), reported by PTI.

The ATS has seized incriminating evidence from the suspects, who are being interrogated for their alleged connections with the banned organisation, the official said.

DRI Mumbai foils courier gold smuggling

In a different scenario, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai, in March foiled a novel attempt to illegally import gold into the country through an international courier channel.

Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers seized 1.815 kg of foreign-origin gold valued at approximately Rs 2.89 crore from a courier consignment that arrived at the International Courier Terminal (ICT), Mumbai, from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, reported news agency ANI.
