Mumbai weather update: City, suburbs likely to receive light to moderate rain today

Mumbai is likely to experience generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall in the city and suburbs on Saturday, according to the latest weather forecast.

High tide expected at 4.73 metres

The city is expected to witness a high tide at 1:44 pm, when the tide is forecast to reach 4.73 metres.

Another high tide of 4.35 metres is expected at 2:02 am on Sunday, August 16.

A low tide of 0.67 metres is expected at 7:53 pm on Saturday, followed by another low tide of 0.96 metres at 7:40 am on Sunday.

Rainfall recorded across Mumbai

Mumbai recorded varying amounts of rainfall between 8 am on August 13 and 8 am on August 14.

The city recorded an average of 12.01 mm of rainfall during the period, while the eastern suburbs received 19.94 mm and the western suburbs recorded 18.95 mm.

The weather department has forecast light to moderate rain in Mumbai and its suburbs, with cloudy conditions expected to persist through the day.

Mumbai lake levels at 91.52 per cent water stock

Mumbai's seven lakes, which supply drinking water to the city, collectively held 13,24,585 million litres of water, or 91.52 per cent of their total live storage capacity, as of 6 am on Saturday, August 15, according to the Hydraulic Engineer's Department at the Bhandup Master Control Centre.

The current stock now stands higher than the same period last year, when the reservoirs contained 12,95,728 million litres (89.52 per cent). However, the lake levels remained significantly lower than in 2024, when the lakes had 13,48,606 million litres, accounting for 93.18 per cent of the total live storage.

Vihar, Tulsi and Modak Sagar lakes remain full

Among the seven reservoirs, Vihar, Tulsi and Modak Sagar lakes remained at 100 per cent live storage. Whereas the water levels at Tansa stood at 99.26 per cent, Middle Vaitarna was at 95.85 per cent, Bhatsa, the city's largest reservoir, was at 89.74 per cent, while Upper Vaitarna remained the lowest-filled lake at 82.32 per cent.

The report stated that Vihar Lake has been overflowing since July 7. However, the capacity of Tansa Dam has decreased, which had been overflowing till Saturday. On the other hand, the water level of Modak Sagar Dam has also decreased marginally on Sunday.
