Mumbai experienced hazy skies and humid conditions on Wednesday, October 28, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast dry weather across Mumbai, Thane and Palghar over the next 24 hours. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain high, with the maximum likely to reach around 35 degree Celsius in Mumbai and its suburbs.
Mumbai's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 92 on Wednesday morning, placing it in the satisfactory category under India's national air quality classification. However, readings at several monitoring stations across the city indicated moderate pollution levels.
According to the forecast, Mumbai and its suburbs are expected to experience mainly clear skies, with some cloud cover during the day. The maximum temperature is likely to reach around 35 degree Celsius, while the minimum is expected to remain in the mid-20s.
The IMD's reported observations for October 26 showed that Colaba recorded a minimum temperature of 25 degree Celsius, while Santacruz registered 21 degree Celsius. Both observatories reported no rainfall, indicating dry conditions across the city during the observation period.
Daytime temperatures remained elevated across Mumbai, with Santacruz recording a maximum of 36 degree Celsius and Colaba registering 36.6 degree Celsius in the reported observations. These readings highlight the continued warmth despite the forecast of mainly clear skies and dry weather.
Residents may experience uncomfortable conditions during the afternoon, particularly when humidity remains high. Those spending extended periods outdoors should take precautions against the heat and stay hydrated.
Mumbai's overall AQI was reported at 92 on Wednesday morning, according to figures attributed to the Central Pollution Control Board's SAMEER app. Under India's national AQI classification, readings between 51 and 100 are considered satisfactory, while values between 101 and 200 fall in the moderate category.
However, monitoring stations across the city recorded varying pollution levels. Bandra-Kurla Complex registered an AQI of 141, followed by Colaba at 106 and Deonar at 114. Andheri recorded 105, while Worli stood at 87 and Borivali reported 94.
The figures indicate that air quality differed across neighbourhoods, with several locations recording moderate pollution despite the citywide reading remaining in the satisfactory category.
Across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Thane recorded an AQI of 81, while Navi Mumbai registered 99 and Kalyan reported 105, according to the figures provided.
Thane and Navi Mumbai fall in the satisfactory category, while Kalyan's reading of 105 places it in the moderate category under the national AQI scale.
