Mumbai and its suburbs are likely to experience hot and humid conditions on Tuesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of the possibility of heatwave conditions.
The city is expected to have mainly clear skies, with maximum and minimum temperatures forecast at around 37 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively.
According to the IMD's 8.30 am weather report, the Colaba observatory in South Mumbai recorded a maximum temperature of 36.5 degrees Celsius, while the Santacruz observatory registered 38.2 degrees Celsius.
The forecast indicates that temperatures could remain high through the day, with hazy sunshine and daytime temperatures expected to reach around 36-37 degrees Celsius.
Residents have been advised to take precautions against heat and humidity, particularly during the afternoon.
Mumbai recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 84 on Tuesday morning, placing the city in the satisfactory category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board's SAMEER app.
Air quality in this category may cause minor breathing discomfort to sensitive people.
Among Mumbai's monitoring stations, Deonar recorded the highest AQI at 133, followed by Bandra Kurla Complex at 107 and Worli at 102. Borivali recorded an AQI of 90.
Ghatkopar registered an AQI of 64, while Colaba recorded 62 and Byculla stood at 80.
Air quality across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also remained in the satisfactory category on Tuesday morning.
Thane recorded an AQI of 81, while Navi Mumbai registered 80 and Kalyan recorded 86.
Meanwhile, people across several parts of the country are gradually finding relief from the heat as rainfall has brought pleasant weather to some regions, while a chill has begun to set in during the mornings and nights elsewhere. After overnight showers in Delhi-NCR, Tuesday morning brought a noticeable dip in temperatures.
From Uttar Pradesh to Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, the weather has changed, with the effects of rainfall also being felt in the hilly states.
The natural coolness following the showers has offered people greater relief than air conditioners. If temperatures continue to fall during the mornings and evenings in the coming days, people may need to reduce fan speeds and bring out warm sheets and quilts at night. However, daytime temperatures could remain relatively high under the sun.
According to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) forecast for October 13, rainfall is expected in 23 states and union territories. Heavy rain is likely in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Moderate rainfall is expected in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Lakshadweep. Light rain is also possible in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are likely in isolated areas.
