The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a rain warning for Mumbai in the next 48 hours, predicting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds at 30-40 kmph. The advisory by the weather forecasting agency comes as parts of Mumbai and suburbs continue to receive intermittent rainfall on Saturday.
As per IMD, the Colaba observatory on Saturday recorded a minimum temperature of 25.3 degrees Celsius along with 18.2 mm of rainfall, while the Santacruz observatory registered a minimum temperature of 25.9 degrees Celsius and 0.5 mm of rainfall.
While the rainfall has provided some relief from humid conditions, the lake levels supplying water to the city still remain a concern. After an intense spell of rain during the start of the week, the lake levels in the seven lakes providing water stood at just 7.53 per cent on Friday.
While the southwest monsoon lashed Mumbai a couple of days earlier, scattered rainfall activity continued to remain weak across Maharashtra, with showers remaining highly uneven and confined to select pockets of the state.
While a few districts reported light precipitation, most regions stayed dry, reflecting the patchy nature of monsoon activity at present.
The overall weather pattern highlighted a clear imbalance in rainfall distribution, with large parts of the state still awaiting widespread and consistent showers.
Meanwhile, the IMD forecast generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall across several parts of the state on Saturday.
In Pune (Shivajinagar), the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with light to moderate rain very likely. The city is likely to record a maximum temperature of around 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 23 degrees Celsius.
In Vidarbha, Akola recorded the highest daytime temperature in Maharashtra at 38.2 degrees Celsius. Gondia and Wardha followed at 37.0 degrees Celsius, while Chandrapur recorded 36.2 degrees Celsius, Yavatmal 36.6 degrees Celsius, Bramhapuri 35.8 degrees Celsius, and Nagpur 36.4 degrees Celsius.
Mahabaleshwar recorded the state's lowest minimum temperature of 17.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Yavatmal at 18.8 degrees Celsius.
In Madhya Maharashtra, Jalgaon recorded a maximum temperature of 35.7 degrees Celsius, Malegaon 35.6 degrees Celsius, Solapur 35.2 degrees Celsius, Ahilyanagar 35.1 degrees Celsius, Pune 34.3 degrees Celsius, Nashik 34.1 degrees Celsius, and Satara 33.7 degrees Celsius.
