Mumbai is expected to witness partly cloudy skies on Saturday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), with temperatures likely to remain warm and humid across the city. The weather department has forecast a maximum temperature of around 34 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius.

The city continued to experience typical pre-monsoon conditions, with humid weather during the day and cloudy intervals expected in several parts of Mumbai and nearby regions.

Mumbai records good air quality despite rising temperatures

Even as temperatures remained high, Mumbai's air quality stayed in the ‘good' category on Saturday. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board's Sameer App showed that the city recorded an overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of 47, indicating minimal impact on public health.

An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good', suggesting that air pollution poses little or no health risk to residents.

Environmental experts said the relatively stable air quality was aided by coastal winds and changing weather conditions ahead of the monsoon season.

AQI levels vary across different parts of Mumbai

Among major monitoring stations in the city, Bandra Kurla Complex recorded an AQI of 38, while Byculla registered 47. Andheri reported an AQI of 50, Ghatkopar recorded 44, and Chembur logged a comparatively lower reading of 27.

Some areas, however, witnessed relatively higher pollution levels. Colaba recorded an AQI of 126, placing it in the ‘moderate' category, while Shivaji Nagar reported an AQI of 88, which falls under the ‘satisfactory' range.

In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Thane registered an AQI of 72, while Navi Mumbai recorded 56. Kalyan reported an AQI of 100, placing it at the upper end of the moderate category.

Pune receives pre-monsoon showers

Meanwhile, Pune received pre-monsoon rainfall on Friday, bringing relief from the intense heat that has affected several parts of Maharashtra over the past few days.

According to the IMD, Pune recorded 13.1 mm rainfall, while the city's maximum temperature stood at 37 degrees Celsius. Light drizzles were also reported from parts of Satara district.

Weather officials said the rainfall activity was linked to changing atmospheric conditions ahead of the southwest monsoon's arrival in the state.

Several Maharashtra regions continue to record temperatures above 40 degrees

Despite scattered rainfall in some districts, several parts of Maharashtra continued to reel under high temperatures.

Nandurbar in north Maharashtra recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius, while Malegaon logged 41 degrees Celsius.

In the Marathwada region, Parbhani recorded 41.3 degrees Celsius, while Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar registered 41.4 degrees Celsius.

In Mumbai, the IMD's Colaba observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius, while Santacruz reported 34.5 degrees Celsius in the suburban region.
