Mumbai weather update: Partly cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and gusty winds expected today

Mumbai and its suburbs are likely to witness partly cloudy skies with occasional spells of light to moderate rain on Monday, according to the weather forecast issued at 8 am.

Occasional gusty winds are also likely during the day.

High tide of 4.36 metres expected in the afternoon

A high tide of 4.36 metres is expected at 1:33 pm on August 31. The next high tide, measuring 4.26 metres, is forecast at 2:09 am on September 1.

Meanwhile, a low tide of 0.62 metres is expected at 7:43 pm on August 31. The next low tide of 1.24 metres is forecast at 7:43 am on September 1.

Light rainfall recorded across Mumbai

Mumbai recorded light rainfall during the 24-hour period between 8 am on August 30 and 8 am on August 31.

The city recorded 0.25 mm of rainfall, while the eastern suburbs received 0.79 mm. The western suburbs recorded 0.25 mm of rainfall during the same period.

Mumbai's seven lakes hold 95.90 pc water stock, with Vihar reservoir at full capacity

Mumbai's seven lakes, which supply drinking water to the city, collectively held 13,88,054 million litres of water, or 95.90 per cent of their total live storage capacity, as of 6 am on Monday, August 31, according to the Hydraulic Engineer's Department at the Bhandup Master Control Centre.

The current stock stands lower than in the same period last year, when the reservoirs contained 13,93,408 million litres (96.27 per cent). Also, the lake levels remained lower than in 2024, when the lakes had 13,97,342 million litres, accounting for 96.54 per cent of the total live storage.

Vihar lake remain full

Among the seven reservoirs, Vihar lake remained at 100 per cent live storage. Whereas the water levels at Tulsi stood at 9771.12, Tansa at 98.33 per cent, Middle Vaitarna was at 98.18 per cent, Bhatsa, the city's largest reservoir at 95.83 per cent, while Upper Vaitarna remained the lowest-filled lake at 89.76 per cent.

Reservoirs at their full capacity

The report stated that Vihar Lake has been overflowing since July 7. However, the capacity of Tansa Dam has decreased, which had been overflowing till August 22. On the other hand, the water level of Modak Sagar Dam has also decreased marginally on August 23.

Meanwhile, the Middle Vaitarna WSCPO gate remains closed, and the release of water from Upper Vaitarna has remained suspended since July 6, according to the Hydraulic Engineer's Department.
