Mumbai Weather Updates: IMD sounds yellow alert; city to experience cloudy sky with heavy rain

As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai is likely to see persistent monsoon activity, with generally cloudy skies, breezy conditions and intermittent rain showers on Monday.

Widespread rain is expected through Wednesday, becoming more widespread by mid-week with periods of moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph in isolated areas.

Mumbai is expected to experience a maximum temperature of around 31 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25 degrees Celsius, consistent with typical monsoon season conditions.

Mumbai is expected to experience a high tide of 3.70 metres at 10:04 AM and another at 3.16 metres at 9:36 PM on Monday.

The low tide is predicted at 2.40 metres at 4:06 PM, while the next low tide, scheduled for July 8 at 3:43 AM, will measure approximately 1.12 metres. Regarding precipitation, Mumbai recorded 7 mm of rainfall in the city between 8:00 AM on Sunday and 8:00 AM on Monday, while the eastern suburbs received 28 mm and the western suburbs recorded 23 mm during the same period.

These rainfall levels reflect typical monsoon patterns in the region and are being closely monitored for any escalation in intensity.

Lake levels in seven reservoirs supplying water to Mumbai surge to 67.88 per cent

As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, the total water stock in the seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai reached 982,413 million litres on Monday. This is 67.88 per cent of the total required stock for the season.

This marks a significant rise from the previous day, with Middle Vaitarna recording the highest 24-hour increase of 5.31 metres, contributing 168,801 ML.

Modak Sagar and Bhatsa also showed substantial rises of 1.85 m and 2.50 m, respectively. Among all lakes, Modak Sagar holds the highest percentage of live storage at 87.03 per cent, while Upper Vaitarna stands at 73.18 per cent.

The city received 44.00 mm of rainfall over the past 24 hours, with the total rainfall now standing at 674.00 mm.

Notably, Upper Vaitarna's release has remained stopped since June 9, and the Middle Vaitarna WSCO gate remains closed, ensuring optimal water conservation.
