The spot where pedestrians are forced to walk outside construction barricades, putting their lives at risk amid moving traffic and construction activity
The authorities have finally heeded the voice of Worli residents living near the elevated connector that links their area to Sewri - and the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) directing the contractor to construct a temporary footpath within a month.

"For the past three to four years, we have been living with this problem. There was no proper provision for pedestrians despite the construction continuing for such a long time," said Rekha Paul, a resident.

The move comes after Vaibhav Warlikar, a resident, highlighted the lack of a dedicated pedestrian pathway during the connector construction, which has been underway for the past three to four years. "With no temporary footpath provided along the stretch, schoolchildren, senior citizens and other pedestrians were forced to walk outside the construction barricades, putting their lives at risk amid moving traffic and construction-related activity," said Warlikar.
Following the complaint and the inconvenience being brought to the authorities' notice, the MMRDA has now instructed the contractor to make arrangements for a temporary footpath within 30 days. After conducting a survey, the MMRDA officials, along with a few residents, visited the spot on October 23.
"With reference to the above subject and correspondence, the authority has taken cognisance of your complaint submitted via email regarding the absence of a safe pedestrian pathway along the entire stretch from Sacred Heart School in Worli to Century Bazaar," the MMRDA wrote to residents.
Based on the inspection, the following measures have been proposed:
>> After completion of the ACB work on a ramp at Narayan Hardikar Marg, the contractor has been instructed to provide a pedestrian pathway approximately one to 1.5 metre wide
>> Contractor instructed to install protective railings where necessary along the proposed pedestrian pathway
>> Correspondence will be initiated with the department concerned to explore the possibility of using the setback area of the BEST depot to obtain additional space for a pedestrian pathway along a stretch of approximately 40 metres
>> After obtaining the necessary permissions and making additional space available, steps will be taken to provide a continuous and safe pedestrian pathway on the left-hand side
