The Bombay Presidency Radio Club Limited temporarily suspended its kitchen operations following an inspection by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), informing members that food services would remain suspended until further notice while assuring them that efforts were underway to normalise operations.
A notice circulated among members said the decision was taken "in view of the FDA inspection". It stated that kitchen operations would remain non-functional for a short period, while sports facilities would continue as usual. Members were advised to order food through Swiggy, Zomato and other delivery platforms.

The development comes amid heightened scrutiny by the Maharashtra FDA of food businesses operating from clubs, hotels and restaurants, focusing on hygiene, food safety practices, storage conditions and statutory compliance. When contacted, FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe did not comment on the inspection or the action taken against the club.
Addressing the situation, Radio Club General Manager Omprakash Tiwari said, "The inspection took place on Wednesday, and all noted issues were promptly resolved. We have fulfilled all the compliances, and we are now operational." His statement, however, contradicts the member notice stating that kitchen operations would remain suspended until further notice.

The conflicting statements leave it unclear whether the FDA officially ordered the closure or if the management voluntarily suspended operations. While the club asserts that full operations have resumed after meeting safety requirements, official notices sent to members still direct them to rely on food delivery apps.
Mumbai's civic headquarters canteen is back to serving food, but only after a month-long food-safety overhaul that saw the establishment move from 22 unresolved deficiencies to just three remaining lapses. Kamal Caterers, which operates the canteen on the first floor of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Office Extension Building at the BMC HQ, resumed operations on Thursday after the FDA revoked the suspension of its business registration following substantial corrective action. The canteen's registration had been suspended on July 22.
The FDA found deficiencies involving the establishment's maintenance and sanitation, personal hygiene, training, and record-keeping. The inspection also found the absence of an approved pest-control regime, flies in the kitchen, lack of a maintained cleaning schedule for the storage area, incomplete medical examination records of food handlers, and deficiencies in the food-safety management system.
