Facility to offer top-end medical care to lower-income groups in eastern suburbs

The BMC has planned a multi-specialty hospital in Nahur that will serve as a first-of-its-kind facility in the eastern suburbs. Spread over approximately 10,000 sq mts, it will have 600 beds and have departments of orthopedics, nephrology, neurology along with the regular pediatrics and gynaecology.

It will also have a trauma care centre along the lines of the Jogeshwari Trauma Care Centre. Since the civic body will consume maximum FSI for the plot, the building may rise to 10 storeys as per new government rules that allow hospitals to be built to a height of 45 mts.

"The advantage is its location. It's for those who cannot afford treatment at high-end, private hospitals," said Dr Suhasini Nagda, BMC's director of medical educator and major hospitals.

"We also want to start post-graduate medical courses, so that we have a strong team of resident doctors. Residents are the backbone of any hospital," Nagda said.
