Navi Mumbai scooter thefts: APMC police crack six cases, arrest two

Navi Mumbai's APMC police have cracked six scooter theft cases and arrested two 20-year-old men, recovering all six stolen vehicles. The accused have been identified as Israfool Firdous Sheikh, 20, a resident of Ekta Nagar slum in Sector 19, Vashi, and Ahmed Rais Sheikh, 20, a resident of Kopri Gaon in Sector 26, Vashi.

The probe

An investigation was launched after a series of scooter thefts were reported within the APMC police station's jurisdiction. Police said they examined CCTV footage from the areas where the thefts had occurred. The suspects were later identified, and police teams began searching for them. The probe led police to Sheikh and Rais, following which they were apprehended. During the investigation, police recovered the scooters.

Accused booked

The accused were booked under sections 303(2) (theft) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. According to the police, five previous cases of theft have been registered against Sheikh and Rais at the APMC police station.

The operation was carried out by the APMC police station's investigation team, comprising Assistant Police Inspectors Amit Shelar and Nilesh Patil, along with personnel from the Detection Branch (DB) team.
