Authorities in Maharashtra are stepping up efforts to trace residents who may have been stranded or gone missing in Nepal following devastating flash floods, with four tourists from Mumbai and Pune already confirmed safe but unable to leave the affected region, reported the PTI.
State disaster management authorities have established contact with the four tourists - two from Mumbai and two from Pune - and are monitoring their situation.
At the same time, district administrations across Marathwada have issued helpline numbers for families who are unable to contact relatives travelling in Nepal.
A state official said authorities were preparing a list of Maharashtra residents who may have been affected by the floods.
Officials are gathering information from families and monitoring developments in Nepal to identify other tourists from the state who could be stranded or missing.
"We are monitoring the situation and gathering information to identify any other Maharashtra residents who may have been affected by the floods," the official said, according to the PTI.
The disaster management departments of Parbhani, Latur, Hingoli, Jalna and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar have appealed to relatives to report details of tourists they cannot contact or who may be stranded somewhere in Nepal.
The information will help authorities establish the whereabouts and safety of travellers from the region and coordinate with other agencies.

Families who are unable to contact relatives in Nepal have been urged to use these numbers and provide details of the affected tourists.
The floods were triggered by a massive surge of water from Tibet that swept through the Bhote Koshi River, affecting Rasuwa and Dhading districts along the Tibet border.
Several towns and villages have suffered extensive damage, while bridges and other critical infrastructure have been washed away. The disaster has also disrupted several hydropower projects, as per the PTI.
Nearly 100 people have reportedly been killed, while more than 750 people, including Indian nationals, remain missing.
Rescue operations are continuing in the affected areas, although damaged roads, bridges and difficult weather conditions have made it harder for authorities to reach stranded people.
Maharashtra's disaster management authorities are continuing to collect information about residents who may have been affected and are coordinating efforts to establish their whereabouts, the news agency reported.
Families across the state who have lost contact with relatives travelling in Nepal have been urged to promptly share their details with the relevant district authorities.
