Nepal floods: Maharashtra begins efforts to locate missing citizens, Thane civic body issues advisory

Amid massive floods in Nepal, the Maharashtra government has begun collecting information about citizens and tourists from the state who may be stranded in the neighbouring country, with a focus on ensuring their safety and facilitating assistance.

The Thane district administration has appealed to citizens and tourists from the district who are currently stranded due to Nepal floods, as well as families unable to establish contact with relatives there, to immediately register their details on the Maharashtra government's Sahayata Emergency Evacuation Registration Portal.

The portal has been created to help authorities compile accurate information and coordinate emergency assistance and evacuation efforts, if required.

Those registering can provide details including the stranded person's name, passport number, mobile or WhatsApp number, address and district in Maharashtra, emergency contact details, current country and city, present address, GPS location and visa details.

The form also seeks information on the number of people accompanying the stranded individual, the nearest airport and any medical emergency or urgent healthcare requirement.

The district administration has also advised people to contact the District Emergency Operations Centre at the Thane Collector's Office if additional assistance is required.

Authorities have urged families and concerned citizens not to panic and to ensure that the information submitted on the portal is accurate and complete. The details will help the state government and relevant agencies assess the situation, establish contact with stranded persons and coordinate further action.

The appeal comes as Nepal faces flooding in several areas, prompting concerns over the safety and movement of tourists and other travellers in affected regions.

The Thane district administration has reiterated that timely registration of information is important for enabling authorities to respond efficiently and provide assistance to Maharashtra residents who may require evacuation or other emergency support.

Indian Embassy issues emergency helplines as over 100 citizens reported missing

The Embassy of India in Nepal has issued emergency numbers for assistance and information related to Indian nationals who have been affected by the massive flash floods in the country on Wednesday.

"For assistance and information related to Indian nationals that have been affected by the flash floods in Nepal today, the following emergency numbers may be contacted: +977 985 131 6807; +977 970 910 7500," the Embassy posted on X.

Several people are feared dead as a massive flash flood swept through Nepal's Bhote Koshi River on Wednesday morning.

Widespread damage has been reported from the affected districts in the northern part of the country, including Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading.

The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) stated that more than 100 Indians are among 384 tourists reported missing in the Rasuwa region.

The tourism board said the 384 missing tourists include 291 foreign nationals and 93 Nepali citizens.
