No one was injured in the incident that took place on late Tuesday evening as there were no passengers inside.

"We have alerted the local police, and an enquiry has been initiated into the matter," an official said.

'Shivshahi' bus catches fire near Thane railway station; no casualties

In another incident, all 17 occupants of a state-run Shivshahi bus had a narrow escape after it caught fire on an elevated deck near Thane railway station in Maharashtra on Thursday afternoon, officials said.

The incident, which occurred around 1.30 pm, led to chaos on the busy SATIS (Station Area Traffic Improvement Scheme) bridge, which serves as a primary hub for Thane Municipal Transport (TMT) and state transport buses.

Videos surfaced on social media showing the Shivshahi AC bus, belonging to the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), engulfed in flames and thick black smoke billowing from it.

Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation, said the bus was heading to Vasai from Swargate in Pune.

"The bus caught fire on the SATIS bridge shortly after departing from the Thane railway station ST bus stand," Tadvi said.

The driver said he saw smoke in the engine and raised an alarm, following which all occupants rushed out of the vehicle.

Altogether, 14 passengers, an ST employee, the driver and the conductor were inside the bus when the blaze erupted, the driver told reporters.

After being alerted, local fire personnel and other emergency teams rushed to the spot.

Traffic on the elevated deck was suspended for some time to secure the place, the official said, adding that the blaze was put out by 2.30 pm, Tadvi said.

"The diesel and oil from the bus had leaked and spread across the road. To prevent further accidents or skidding, our teams have spread soil over the affected stretch," the official said.

The bus was completely charred, and a probe was underway into the cause of the fire, he added.
