Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar on Monday alleged that repeated paper leaks in major examinations, including the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), have damaged Maharashtra's reputation across the country and jeopardised the future of lakhs of students and teachers.
The issue was raised in the Maharashtra Assembly after the Opposition moved an adjournment motion seeking a discussion on the alleged TET paper leak. Addressing the House, Wadettiwar said repeated examination irregularities have undermined the efforts of students and teachers who spend years preparing for competitive examinations.
He questioned the government's ability to conduct examinations in a transparent and secure manner and asked it to explain why such incidents continue to occur despite previous controversies.
Wadettiwar called for a thorough investigation into the alleged TET paper leak, saying the probe should cover the agencies responsible for preparing examination papers, the companies involved in conducting the examination process, and the wider network allegedly linked to the racket.
While noting that three accused have been arrested, he claimed that the investigation has revealed links extending to other states. He said the entire network behind the alleged paper leak should be identified and those responsible should face strict legal action.
Referring to Abhishek Sawarikar, an accused in the 2018 TET scam, Wadettiwar alleged that individuals named in the earlier case were later inducted into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He also questioned the appearance of the name "Crystal" in connection with the ongoing investigation, alleging that the development had raised doubts about the government's role. He further questioned whether such examination scams had political backing.
Wadettiwar said the future of students in Maharashtra was at stake and demanded a detailed discussion on the issue in the legislature. He urged the government to take stringent action against all those involved and announce concrete measures to prevent similar incidents in future examinations.
According to the Opposition, the government did not provide a satisfactory response to its demands or allow adequate discussion on the issue. Following this, legislators from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) staged a walkout from the Assembly in protest.
