Three major projects that will bring relief to thousands of motorists will see the light of day in 2026, not least of which is the much-awaited missing link project on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, bypassing the treacherous ghat section, which is expected to be opened by next May or June.

Lokhandwala-JVLR double-decker flyover

To ease traffic congestion and improve east-west connectivity between Andheri and Jogeshwari, the BMC had proposed a 5.08-km flyover linking New Link Road near Infiniti Mall in Andheri West with Poonam Nagar on the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road in Jogeshwari East.

Mumbai-Nashik Highway widening

The Thane-Vadpe stretch of the Old Mumbai-Nashik Highway

The widening of the four-lane Thane-Vadpe stretch of the Old Mumbai-Nashik Highway (NH-3) into an eight-lane expressway is in progress, and this work is expected to be completed by March 2026 at an estimated cost of Rs 1182.87 crore. The upgraded 23-km stretch is expected to significantly ease congestion, improve traffic flow, and cut travel time.

The missing link

The project will help motorists on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway bypass the Khandala ghat section and will reduce the distance of the Expressway by over six kilometres, reducing travel time by more than 25 minutes.
