At least 12 govindas were treated for injuries at two civic hospitals in Thane during Dahi Handi celebrations on Saturday, according to details released by the Thane Municipal Corporation.
As of 5.30 pm, four govindas had been admitted for treatment at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital. Their injuries included back, neck, head, and limb injuries.
Jatin Patil sustained injuries to his back and neck, while 31-year-old Jatin Kesari suffered a back injury. Nandkishor Shelar, 65, sustained a head injury, while 35-year-old Nikhil Yadav suffered a minor injury to his left hand.
Eight other govindas were treated at the District Government Hospital in Thane.
Among them, 21-year-old Harsh Sharma and 19-year-old Ayush Gupte suffered minor back injuries. Girish Chipkar, 23, also sustained a minor injury.
Twenty-five-year-old Omkar Shinde suffered a fracture to his right leg, while 21-year-old Aman Yadav sustained a minor injury to his right hand.
Amey Naik, 23, suffered a minor injury to his right hand. Aakash Ghadge, 30, and Anish Rokade, 26, sustained injuries to their right legs.
The injured govindas were residents of various parts of Thane, including Wagle Estate, Kisan Nagar, Hajuuri-Ambikanagar and Balkum. Amey Naik was from Girgaon in Mumbai.
The injuries were reported as govinda pathaks across Thane participated in Dahi Handi celebrations, forming human pyramids to break suspended handis as part of the Janmashtami festivities.
The civic authorities' update covered cases treated at the two government hospitals up to 5.30 pm on Saturday.
As many as 118 govindas were injured during Dahi Handi 2026 celebrations in Mumbai, with 80 still under treatment at various government and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) hospitals, according to an update received till 6 pm on Saturday.
Of the 118 injured govindas, five were admitted to hospitals, while 33 had been discharged after receiving treatment, the BMC said.
The highest number of injured govindas was reported from KEM Hospital, where 29 were treated. Of them, 14 remained under treatment and 15 were discharged.
Nair Hospital reported 17 injured govindas, all of whom had been discharged. Sion Hospital reported seven injured govindas, with all seven discharged.
At Rajawadi Hospital, 13 injured govindas were brought in for treatment. Four were admitted and are under treatment, while five had been discharged.
Hinduja Hospital reported eight injured govindas, all of whom remained under treatment, while Potdar Hospital has 11 injured govindas undergoing treatment.
