Thane: Fire at MMRDA rental complex sparks panic, no injuries reported

A fire broke out at the Dosti MMRDA Rental complex in Thane's Vartak Nagar area during the late hours of Friday. The blaze triggered panic among residents after thick smoke engulfed parts of the residential building.

The incident occurred at around 11 pm on June 19 on the ground floor of Building No. 1 in the MMRDA rental complex. As per the officials, the fire rapidly generated dense smoke, which spread to the first and second floors, causing distress among occupants.

Smoke entered residential spaces

Residents reported that smoke caused by the dense fire entered several homes, leading to breathing difficulties and prompting many families to evacuate the building as a precautionary measure. While the panic gripped the area as people rushed out of their apartments to safety, authorities quickly took the necessary actions to bring the situation under control.

Upon being alerted, the Thane Municipal Corporation's fire department and personnel from the Vartak Nagar police station reached the spot. Two fire tenders were deployed to contain the blaze, and firefighting operations continued late into the night, as per the officials.

No injuries reported

The affected building is part of the MMRDA rental housing complex, which is maintained under the supervision of the Thane Municipal Corporation. Authorities worked to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the structure and to ensure the safe evacuation of residents.

Officials, while briefing about the incident, said that no injuries or fatalities were reported. While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, an investigation is expected to be carried out.

Portion of old building collapses in Byculla; no injuries reported

A portion of an old building undergoing demolition collapsed in Byculla (West) on Friday night. The unfortunate incident triggered the authorities to halt the ongoing work and implement additional safety measures.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), the incident was reported at around 9:36 pm on June 19. The building that partially collapsed is located at Sundar Gully on Hans Road, beside Dagadi Chawl in Byculla (West).

No injuries reported

As per the officials, a section of the second floor of the vacant ground-plus-two-storey (G+2) structure collapsed onto the first floor. While the incident could have been a big tragedy, no injuries were reported, and the authorities are continuing to monitor the site to ensure public safety and prevent any further mishaps.
