A fire broke out in five temporary shanties behind Sahyog Society near Kharegaon Bridge in Kalwa, Thane, on Friday morning.
A mini gas cylinder also exploded during the incident, which was reported at 9.23 am. All five shanties were locked when the fire broke out, and no one was inside, officials said.
Fire brigade personnel, along with Disaster Management Department staff, Kalwa Police, and encroachment department officials, rushed to the spot. One fire tender and two rescue vehicles were deployed to control the blaze.
The fire was brought under control around 10.30 am with the help of local residents, disaster management personnel, and fire brigade staff.
The blaze caused extensive damage to all five shanties, which were largely gutted in the incident.
A fire broke out in a residential building in Tilak Nagar area in Mumbai's Chembur, officials said on Wednesday.
They said that no injuries were reported in the incident, which was reported around 7.15 pm at Building No 110 in B Wing on Road No 13 in Tilak Nagar.
According to the BMC's Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), the fire broke out in Room No 402 of the ground plus 15-storey building.
The blaze affected electrical wiring, electrical installations, the ceiling, wooden furniture, and documents inside the room.
Fire brigade personnel reached the spot and began firefighting operations. The fire was brought under control and extinguished at 8.01 pm using one small hose line.
Two fire brigade personnel wearing breathing apparatus (BA) sets were involved in the firefighting operation.
A total of 33 people were rescued from the building and shifted safely to the terrace as a precautionary measure.
The BMC's Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, the electricity distribution company concerned, 108 ambulance services, and BMC Ward and Building and Factory (B&F) staff were mobilised following the incident.
