Thane: Generator vehicle gutted in roadside fire, no injuries reported

A fire broke out in a generator-mounted four-wheeler in Thane (West) on Wednesday morning, though no injuries were reported, civic officials said.

According to the Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation, the incident was reported at around 10.32 am on December 25. The blaze involved a Maruti Super Carry generator vehicle bearing registration number MH 04 BP 6019, which was parked on the roadside in front of the Welfare Centre Art Centre at Samata Nagar Naka, Samata Nagar. The vehicle is owned by Rajesh Kadam.

On receiving the alert - conveyed by Dipesh Patil - teams from the Vartak Nagar Police, the Disaster Management Cell (with one pickup vehicle), and the fire brigade rushed to the spot. Firefighters deployed a fire engine and a rescue vehicle to control the blaze.

Officials said the generator vehicle, along with the generator, was completely gutted, causing damage. However, the fire was brought under control and fully extinguished by around 10.47 am. The situation is now stable, and no casualties were reported.

Fire breaks out on 14th floor of Andheri high-rise, no injuries reported

A Level-I fire broke out in a residential high-rise building in Andheri (West) on Wednesday morning, prompting swift action by civic authorities. The incident was reported at 10:05 am to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) control room.

According to officials, the fire occurred at Sorrento Tower, located on Veera Desai Road near Country Club. The blaze was confined to electrical wiring and installations within the electric shaft between the 10th and 21st floors. Firefighters also found that routers, shoe racks, wooden furniture and other materials near the electric duct on multiple floors were affected. The building comprises a stilt, four podium levels, and residential floors from the 5th to the 22nd storey.

During rescue operations, around 30 to 40 residents who had gathered in the refuge area on the 16th floor were safely evacuated via the staircase. Additionally, two men and one woman were rescued from Flat No. 1503 on the 15th floor using breathing apparatus (BA) sets.

The fire brigade declared the situation under control and fully extinguished the Level-I fire at 11:37 am. As per the latest update issued at 11:55 am, no injuries were reported in the incident.

Firefighting and evacuation operations were carried out efficiently, ensuring the safety of all residents, officials confirmed.
