Thane man booked for throwing cat from 12th floor of building; video sparks outrage

Thane Police have registered a case against a man for allegedly pushing a cat to death from the 12th floor of a residential building at Ambarnath in Maharashtra's Thane district, officials said on Tuesday.

According to PTI, the incident occurred early on Sunday, and a case in this connection was registered on Monday after a video of the man, aged around 50 years, pushing the cat from the parapet wall of the building's duct went viral on social media.

Video sparks outrage among the citizens

The shocking video sparked outrage among animal rights activists and welfare organizations, who are demanding swift legal action against the perpetrator.

Senior inspector Pramod Patil of the Shivaji Nagar police station, while speaking to the media about the incident, said, "The incident occurred around 5:45 am on Sunday. The cat was sitting on the 12th floor parapet wall of the housing society's duct when the accused came there and pushed the feline off without any provocation. The animal fell to the ground floor and died," as cited by PTI.

The police official further added that after being informed, a police team rushed to the scene. The carcass of the cat was recovered and sent to a veterinary hospital, where a post-mortem was conducted, as per PTI.

He also said, "The case was registered against the man under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act."

Pet dog lunges at women in lift of Malad building

In a separate incident, a tense moment inside a residential tower in Mumbai's Malad was captured on CCTV after a pet dog allegedly lunged at three women inside a lift, causing panic among them.

The incident reportedly took place at a high-rise residential tower near Mittal College. According to people familiar with the matter, the dog suddenly became aggressive while the girls were traveling in the lift.

Owner prevents the attack

The women were visibly frightened as the dog allegedly attempted to pounce on them. However, the dog's owner quickly restrained the animal before anyone was injured.

The swift action prevented the situation from escalating into a more serious incident.

Police verify the incident.

After the video surfaced online, the Malad Police took suo motu cognisance of the matter and traced the incident to the residential building.
