A 34-year-old man died after being electrocuted by a metal window frame carrying current while talking on his mobile phone at his house in Maharashtra's Thane city, police said on Thursday.
The incident occurred at a chawl (row tenement) in the Manpada area on September 21.
The man, Mohit Rahul Bhavar (34), was speaking on his mobile phone when he inadvertently touched a nearby window frame, not realising it was live with current, a police official said.
He suffered a severe electric shock and was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead, the official said.
The police registered an Accidental Death Report and were probing the source of the electrical leakage that charged the window frame.
In a separate incident, a 21-year-old man died after receiving an electric shock at his house here while testing musical equipment for a Ganesh immersion procession, police said on September 17.
The deceased was identified as Aryan Sanjay Baidya (21), a resident of Ambedkar Chowk, Sathenagar, Wagle Estate.
According to police sources, the incident occurred around 3:30 PM on September 15. Aryan, who played the banjo, was testing the instrument by connecting its wiring directly into a wall socket.
His father was in another room repairing a drum (dhol). When Aryan's younger sister went to the inner room to fetch water, she found him lying unconscious on the floor.
The family rushed Aryan in an auto-rickshaw to a private hospital and later to the Civil Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police have registered an Accidental Death Report in the case.
Meanwhile, a group of people allegedly assaulted a woman and her family members after she asked them not to play loud drums during a Ganesh immersion procession in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Thursday.
The police have registered a case against 12 individuals in connection with the incident, which occurred on the night of September 20 at the Subhash Nagar area in Ulhasnagar, they said.
The 35-year-old woman asked the group to move down the street while playing heavy drums during the immersion procession because the loud noise was disturbing her two children, aged 2 and 4 months, a police official said.
The group then assaulted the woman, her husband, brother-in-law and another acquaintance and also abused and threatened them, he said.
Based on the complaint, the police on Wednesday registered a case against 12 persons on charges of unlawful assembly, rioting, causing hurt, criminal intimidation, and intentional insult, the official said.
