A 58-year-old female construction worker lost her life on Saturday evening after her saree got stuck in an active cement mixer at a construction site in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Tuesday, reported PTI.
The incident occurred at Palegaon MIDC in Ambernath East on August 1, they said.
The deceased has been identified as Revati Padu Gaud (58), a native of Odisha, reported PTI.
While Paud was working on the site, the loose end of her saree got entangled in the operating mixer machine. The sudden force pulled her tightly against the equipment, inflicting severe abdominal injuries.
She was immediately rushed to the Badlapur Rural Hospital for emergency treatment. However, doctors noted a dangerous drop in her oxygen levels and advised her family to transfer her to a higher facility. She was then transported via ambulance to Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar 3, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival, the police said, reported PTI.
A case was registered at the Shivajinagar police station under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
In a separate incident, the body of an unidentified woman, believed to be aged between 55 and 60, was recovered from a lake in Thane city on Monday morning, officials said, reported PTI.
According to Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) at the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), emergency responders received information regarding a body floating in the Ambe-Ghosale Lake in the Rabodi area at around 9:25 am, reported PTI.
Personnel from the RDMC and the Thane Fire Brigade retrieved the body from the lake and handed it over to the Rabodi police, he said, adding the corpse was that of an unidentified woman.
Following preliminary site procedures, the body was sent to the Thane District Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death, said Tadvi, reported PTI.
Police have registered an accidental death report and initiated legal and investigative proceedings to determine the identity of the woman and the circumstances leading to her death, he added.
