Veer Baal Diwas a day of reverence to remember sacrifice of brave Sahibzades: PM

Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Friday said that ‘Veer Baal Diwas' is a day of reverence devoted to remembering the sacrifice of the brave Sahibzades, the sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh.

On the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh on January 9, 2022, PM Modi had announced that December 26 would be observed as Veer Baal Diwas to commemorate the martyrdom of Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh. The unparalleled sacrifice of the sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh, he said, continues to inspire generations.

"Veer Baal Diwas is a day of reverence, dedicated to remembering the sacrifice of the brave Sahibzades. We recall the unshakeable faith of Mata Gujri Ji and the immortal teachings of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji," Modi said in a post on X.

PM Modi further stated that the day symbolises courage, conviction and righteousness, adding that the lives and ideals of the Sahibzades will continue to motivate people for generations to come.

Later, in an address in Delhi, PM Modi said, "This day of Veer Bal Diwas is a day filled with emotion and reverence... On one side of that battle was the Tenth Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, and on the other side was the cruel rule of Aurangzeb. Our Sahibzadas were very young in age at that time, but it made no difference to Aurangzeb, to his cruelty... But Aurangzeb and his military commanders had forgotten that our Guru was no ordinary man. He was the living embodiment of penance and sacrifice. The brave Sahibzadas had inherited that legacy from him, so even though the entire Mughal empire was arrayed against them, they could not shake even one of those four Sahibzadas."

To mark Veer Baal Diwas, the Government of India is organising participative programmes across the country with the aim of educating citizens about the extraordinary courage and supreme sacrifice of the Sahibzades, and of honouring and commemorating the indomitable courage, sacrifice and valour of the young heroes in India's history.

The activities will include storytelling sessions, recitations, and poster-making and essay-writing competitions, among others.
