Maharashtra health officials said that while Mumbai has 12,864 COVID-19 cases, an additional 178 cases have been reported, but are yet to be added to the tally.The ministry said that 17847 people have so far recovered from the infection.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has put additional commissioners in charge of seven zones in the city, in a bid to tackle the spread of coronavirus in a more effective manner.

As per the order, seven additional commissioners will work towards improving the double rate of positive cases from 10 days to 20 days by May 17.

These officials will be responsible for mapping positive cases, contact tracing, strict enforcement of norms in containment zones, door-to-door surveillance, identifying senior citizens with comorbid conditions, and fever clinics, the circular dated May 7 said.

Meanwhile in Mumbai, 25 new cases were reported from Dharavi which included one death. Five of the cases were from Mukund Nagar, the slum pocket with the highest concentration of cases.

Dharavi alone now has 833 positive cases. Five other cases were reported from Mahim, 18 in Dadar, including eight cases from Kasarwadi.

 According to the police, Over one lakh cases of lockdown violations were registered and over 19,000 persons were arrested ever since prohibitory orders were enforced in Maharashtra in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At least 1.02 lakh cases were registered under section 188 (disobeying an order passed by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code, an official said.
