On the 11th day of the extended lockdown, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra climbed to 7,628, with over 300 deaths reported, according to the state public health department.
In Mumbai, a 57-year-old constable became the first COVID-19 casualty from the Mumbai Police force. The cop was diagnosed with COVID-19 on April 22 and succumbed at BYL Nair Hospital
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India's total number of coronavirus positive cases crossed 26,000 with over 800 deaths reported.
Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that the lockdown rules will remain
unchanged in the state will May 3. Talking to media persons, Tope said there was no clarity in the Centre's latest order regarding the reopening of shops.
The issue of sending migrant labourers back to their native places will also be taken up during the meeting with the prime minister, Tope said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with the state chief ministers on April 27.
Stating that economic activities need to start, Tope said the Maharashtra government was of the opinion that businesses can resume in green zones with borders of these areas sealed and industrial activity allowed inside.
Meanwhile, the Central Railway will make 25,000 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) coverall out of 1.5 lakh coverall targeted to produce by Indian Railways.
These PPE overalls will be as per the standard & specification approved by DRDO of the sample submitted by the Northern Railway.

The first Roza of the holy month of Ramzan was held on Saturday in India — but given the pandemic, the pious gatherings, prayer meetings and lavish feasts that usually accompany it will take a back seat in the lockdown.
So far, the BMC has sealed 1,214 areas, out of which more than half are slum pockets. Till April 20, there were 902 Containment Zones (CZ). Between April 21 and 24, 312 buildings and slum pockets were sealed, with the reopening day of the last ones being May 8.
The BMC will soon utilise government schools to make quarantine facilities for COVID-19 patients. The BMC has told schools to fix leaks, fans, toilets and other issues in the buildings.
In the wake of the pandemic, GVK MIAL managing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) put together measures to curb the spread of coronavirus.
The airport has formulated standard operating procedures for post-lockdown safety of the passengers, which include social distancing, stringent thermal screening, positioning temporary quarantine centres and also continues to sanitise and disinfect the airport to ensure safety and well-being of the passengers when operations resume.
The special markings will be spread across the entry gate, check-in counters, self-check-in kiosks, security checkpoints, food courts, lounge area, and the boarding area among others.
Moreover, the seating arrangements at the food court as well as in the terminal building are reshuffled in a manner that promotes social distancing.
Besides, CSMIA has also created quarantine centres at both the terminals of the airport in case any passenger shows symptoms of the deadly virus during screening which will be conducted before entering the terminal building.
