The induction is expected to significantly strengthen the Navy’s capabilities in deep-sea diving, underwater intervention, salvage and submarine rescue operations
The commissioning ceremony was presided over by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, in the presence of Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command
Senior naval officers, representatives of Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), veterans, guests and families of the commissioning crew attended the ceremony
An official statement said that the ship is a major addition to India's specialist underwater capabilities and demonstrates the country's growing ability to design and construct technologically advanced naval platforms
Its induction also marks another step towards Aatmanirbharta in defence shipbuilding, highlighting the role of Indian shipyards and the domestic defence industry, the statement said
