BR Ambedkar, fondly known as 'Babasaheb', was the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and is thus also called the 'Father of the Indian Constitution'. Ambedkar was also the first law and justice minister of independent India

Fadnavis, in a post on X, described Ambedkar as a great economist and a "guiding force behind the democratic ideals of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity"

Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar and state minister Chhagan Bhujbal also joined Governor Varma and CM Fadnavis to pay their homage at Chaityabhoomi

Later, the leaders viewed framed historical images, certificates, and writings displayed on the exhibition walls

Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891, in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh. He died on December 6, 1956. Babasaheb was born into an impoverished Dalit Mahar Family in Madhya Pradesh. He fought tirelessly for the equal rights of marginalised sections of society. Later, he was revered as a 'Dalit Icon' for his contributions towards their rights

In 1990, Ambedkar was conferred with the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award.
