The inauguration of Mumbai Metro Line 9, connecting Dahisar (East) to Mira-Bhayandar, marks a significant step in the city’s expanding metro network, promising faster, greener, and more efficient travel for commuters
The elevated corridor spans 10.5 kilometres with a total of eight stations, including Dahisar (East), Pandurangwadi, Miragaon, Kashigaon, Sai Baba Nagar, Meditya Nagar, Shahid Bhagat Singh Garden, and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Garden
Phase I to connect Dahisar to Kashigaon. The first phase of the project, covering 4.7 kilometres, includes four stations—Dahisar (East), Pandurangwadi, Miragaon, and Kashigaon
This stretch is expected to significantly improve connectivity for residents of Mira-Bhayandar, offering a direct route towards Andheri via the Western Express Highway
Metro Line 9 is integrated with the city’s existing network, linking to Metro Line 7 (Dahisar East–Andheri East) and Line 7A (Andheri East–Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport). It also provides interchange connectivity at Dahisar (East), a key junction with Metro Line 2A
Officials say the new metro corridor is expected to ease congestion, particularly at the Dahisar toll plaza, by reducing dependency on road transport
Phase I alone is projected to shift 20–30 per cent of commuters from roads to the metro, potentially reducing traffic congestion by 10–15 per cent during peak hours
The improved connectivity is also expected to bring significant time savings for daily commuters, especially those travelling between Kashigaon and key commercial hubs like Andheri
Metro Line 9 has been designed with a strong focus on sustainability. The shift from road to rail is expected to lower fuel consumption and reduce carbon emissions, contributing to improved air quality
