The electric illumination transformed the iconic building into a striking visual landmark for the celebrations

Maharashtra Day is celebrated every year on May 1 to mark the formation of the state of Maharashtra in 1960

The day commemorates the division of the erstwhile Bombay State into Maharashtra and Gujarat, following a long-standing demand for linguistic states

The creation of Maharashtra was the result of the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement, a mass struggle led by activists and leaders who sought a separate state for Marathi-speaking people

After years of protests and political efforts, the state was officially formed, with Mumbai as its capital.
