Tensions flared at Dadar's kabutarkhana as members of the Jain community and local residents staged a protest against the BMC’s move to cover the pigeon-feeding spot. Despite the protest being called off, people tore down the cover and broke the bamboo structure, and resumed feeding pigeons. The incident drew swift police intervention, but the situation at the site remains tense and unclear. (Pics/ Ashish Raje)

Protesters have demanded that the kabutarkhana should be reopened, warning that if not, they would opt for the NOTA (None of the above) option in the coming civic elections.

Even after the planned protest was called off, several protesters carrying knives arrived at the kabutarkhana around 11 am the following day.

After tearing the tarpaulin cover installed by the BMC, people who were protesting began feeding pigeons.

BMC staff subsequently alerted the Shivaji Park police, who immediately rushed to the site.

Cops intervene after the tarpaulin of the tent atop the feeding spot is torn; agitators insist that feeding pigeons shouldn’t be considered an offence. However, the situation around the Dadar kabutarkhana still looks cryptic.
